Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested two suspected transnational drug traffickers and recovered 197 sachets of Tramadol during a border patrol operation in the state.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, the Command recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and cross-border crimes with the interception of the suspects, who were found in possession of 197 sachets of the controlled substance.

The suspects were identified as Muhammad Mustapha, 32, a resident of Dorayi in Kano State, and Muhammad Sanusi, 48, from Garoua in the Republic of Cameroon. They were apprehended by operatives of the Border Patrol Fufore Unit during a routine operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit consignment was transported from a South-Eastern state and routed through Adamawa with the intention of smuggling it into Cameroon before security operatives intercepted it.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the Border Patrol Unit and directed the Command’s Monitoring Unit to take over the case for thorough investigation and necessary legal action.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related offences and other forms of trans-border criminality, stressing that it remains resolute in ensuring the safety and security of residents.

Meanwhile, in December 2025, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported significant anti-narcotics achievements in Adamawa State.

The Adamawa Commander of the Agency, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed that operatives seized a total of 1,396.5 kilograms of narcotics and arrested 150 suspects in a series of intelligence-driven operations across the state, including at the airport.

According to him, the seizures included 353 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 983 kilograms of Tramadol, and 60.5 kilograms of other opioids. He further revealed that two vehicles linked to alleged drug offences were confiscated.

Abubakar added that the command secured six convictions, has 53 pending cases before the courts, and has counselled and rehabilitated 39 individuals arrested for drug abuse.

Security agencies in the state have continued to intensify operations aimed at dismantling drug networks and curbing the flow of illicit substances across Nigeria’s borders.
