Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially unveiled Dr. Peter Akpe as the sixth Deputy Governor of the state, following his clearance by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber in Yenagoa, also featured the inauguration of four commissioners and 14 permanent secretaries, marking a significant reshuffle in the state’s administrative structure.
Dr. Akpe’s appointment comes in the wake of the death of the immediate past Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on December 11 and was accorded a full state burial.
Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony, Governor Diri paid tribute to the late deputy governor and thanked stakeholders across the state for their unity and support during the period of mourning.
The governor said he prayerfully nominated Dr. Akpe for the position after carefully considering competence, character, and fear of God. He commended the House of Assembly for its swift consideration and approval of the nomination, describing the process as being in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Diri assured the new deputy governor of his full support, expressing confidence that Dr. Akpe would serve as a reliable confidant and partner in delivering on the administration’s promises to the people of Bayelsa State.
He charged the deputy governor to remain mindful of the solemn oath of office and to discharge his duties with honour, empathy, and a strong commitment to the well-being and development of the state.
The ceremony concluded with the formal inauguration of the newly appointed commissioners and permanent secretaries, underscoring the administration’s resolve to strengthen governance and service delivery in Bayelsa State.
