The All Progressives Congress has disqualified 47 senatorial aspirants from participating in its Senate primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following the conclusion of the screening exercise conducted by the APC Screening Committees.
According to the statement, the exercise was carried out “in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.”
Among the notable figures affected is former Bayelsa East senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, who was denied clearance alongside fellow aspirant Benson Agadaga.
Rivers West Senatorial District recorded the highest number of disqualified aspirants, with four politicians failing to secure clearance. They include Oyukaye Flag Amachree, Tamunobaabo Wemike Danagogo, Jack-Rich Tein and Banigo Ipalibo.
Zamfara State also recorded a significant number of disqualifications, with seven aspirants across the Central, North and West senatorial districts excluded from the primaries.
The APC, however, did not state specific reasons for the disqualification of the affected aspirants.
Other states affected include Adamawa, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, the Federal Capital Territory, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe.
In Oyo State, notable aspirants who failed to secure clearance include Ademola Wasiu Alli, Ajimobi Wasiu Adegboyega, Kolapoboye Kola Daisi and Akinremi Alade Bolaji.
Similarly, in Plateau State, Gyang Yaya Zi San, Napoleon Binkap Bah and Usman Ephraim Gar were among those disqualified.
The development has continued to generate reactions within the ruling party as aggrieved aspirants and supporters await further clarification from the APC leadership ahead of the primaries.
The disqualifications come amid growing controversies surrounding the APC primaries nationwide, with allegations of manipulation, imposition and internal power struggles already trailing the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
