Some of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders and playmakers from Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City dominate the list of players with the most assists in a single season, underlining their lasting influence on English football.
While goalscorers often grab headlines, the league’s assist records continue to showcase the brilliance of players whose creativity shaped some of the Premier League’s most memorable campaigns.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has now joined the elite group after recording 20 assists in the 2025/2026 season, equalling the all-time Premier League record for most assists in a single campaign.
According to Planet Football, the following players rank among the greatest creators in Premier League history.
Fàbregas shines for Arsenal, Chelsea
Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fàbregas first entered the elite assist rankings during the 2007/2008 season when he registered 17 assists under Arsène Wenger.
The Spaniard later returned to the Premier League with Chelsea in the 2014/2015 campaign and improved his tally to 18 assists, playing a key role in José Mourinho’s title-winning side.
One of the standout moments of that season was his brilliant assist for André Schürrle against Burnley on the opening day.
Lampard’s dominant Chelsea season
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard also recorded 18 assists during the 2004/2005 season as the Blues cruised to the Premier League title under Mourinho.
Lampard combined his creativity with goals, scoring 13 times and finishing second behind Ronaldinho in the Ballon d’Or rankings that year.
Salah’s Liverpool brilliance
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah matched the 18-assist mark during the 2024/2025 campaign.
The Egyptian forward also scored 27 goals, carrying much of Liverpool’s attacking responsibility throughout the season despite the club’s struggles.
Özil dazzles at Arsenal
Former Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil produced 19 assists during the 2015/2016 season, with most of his contributions coming in the opening half of the campaign.
Özil’s creativity was central to Arsenal’s title challenge that season, although his assist numbers dropped later in the campaign.
Bruno equals assist record
Fernandes’ remarkable 2025/2026 campaign has placed him alongside Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who also reached 20 assists in a single season.
The Portuguese midfielder recovered from a slow start to become Manchester United’s driving force as the club pushed for Champions League qualification.
His record-equalling assist came during United’s victory over Nottingham Forest.
Henry’s historic campaign
Arsenal icon Thierry Henry recorded 20 assists during the 2002/2003 season while also scoring 24 goals in one of the greatest individual campaigns in Premier League history.
Henry reached the milestone on the final day of the season against Sunderland.
De Bruyne’s creative dominance
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne matched the record in the 2019/2020 season, reaching 20 assists in just 35 appearances.
The Belgian finished far ahead of every other player in the assist standings that season and remains one of the Premier League’s greatest creators.
De Bruyne had earlier registered 18 assists during Pep Guardiola’s first season at Manchester City in 2016/2017, signalling the beginning of his dominance in English football.
With Fernandes now joining the exclusive list, the Premier League’s legacy of elite playmakers continues to grow, highlighting the importance of creativity alongside goals in modern football.
