Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has been selected to accompany President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a historic state visit to the United Kingdom.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, noting that Lawal will be part of the presidential delegation departing Abuja on Tuesday.
The visit, scheduled for March 18 to 19, 2026, will see President Tinubu, the First Lady, and members of the delegation hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
According to the statement, the trip is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with a focus on immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
“At Windsor Castle, President Tinubu, the First Lady, and their entourage will be hosted by Their Majesties and will also view a special exhibition of Royal Collection items related to Nigeria. A State Banquet will be held in honour of the Nigerian delegation,” the statement added.
During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The discussions are expected to culminate in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.
The President will also attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition as a guest of honour and engage with business leaders as well as members of the Nigerian diaspora in the United Kingdom.
The inclusion of Governor Lawal in the delegation is seen as a strategic move to attract investment and foster economic opportunities for Zamfara State.
The presidential entourage includes top government officials such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Culture Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Communications Bosun Tijani, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Mohammed Mohammed.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts by both nations to deepen diplomatic and economic ties while exploring new areas of collaboration.
