Wike Remains PDP’s Valuable Asset, Party Tells APC
By Margaret Abah
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed suggestions that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, may permanently align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains one of the party’s most valuable political assets.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the party has no intention of relinquishing Wike, regardless of any overtures from the APC or speculation about his political future.
The statement followed recent remarks by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who praised Wike’s leadership and performance while commissioning a project in Abuja on Tuesday.
Reacting to the commendation, the PDP described it as a public acknowledgment of the quality of leadership within its ranks and reaffirmed that the FCT minister remains a committed member of the party.
According to the PDP, Wike’s service in the APC-led Federal Government should not be interpreted as a sign of political defection, stressing that his appointment has neither altered his political identity nor diminished his loyalty to the opposition party.
The party maintained that Wike’s contributions to governance, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, reflect the competence and leadership qualities associated with the PDP.
“The commendation by the APC National Chairman further confirms the calibre of leaders produced by the PDP and reinforces our position as a party with capable and result-oriented public servants,” the statement noted.
The PDP further stated that while Wike is serving in the current administration, there is no arrangement for a permanent political realignment.
It insisted that the minister remains an integral part of the party and that any expectation of his eventual defection to the APC would be misplaced.
The party also praised Wike’s achievements in infrastructure development and urban renewal in the FCT, describing his performance as evidence of the PDP’s commitment to effective governance and service delivery.
According to the statement, Wike’s leadership has earned him recognition across political, ethnic and religious divides, further underscoring his relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The PDP urged Nigerians to continue supporting the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that it has capable leaders who can drive national development and provide effective leadership for the country.
