Sowore Questions Proxy Filling of Tinubu’s Nomination Forms

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the process surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, raising concerns over the use of proxies to obtain and complete his nomination forms.
Sowore’s reaction followed the signing of Tinubu’s presidential nomination forms, reportedly valued at N100 million, by the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, Umahi described the move as a demonstration of commitment to continuity and consolidation of the administration’s achievements.
He characterised the nomination process as “a defining moment in Nigeria’s ongoing development journey,” noting that it reflects a collective resolve to sustain stability and build on the gains recorded under the current administration.
Umahi further highlighted the administration’s strides in infrastructure, particularly in road construction and rehabilitation, which he said remain vital to economic growth. He added that President Tinubu is well positioned to complete ongoing projects and deepen development across critical sectors, while urging Nigerians to support consistent leadership for long-term national progress.
However, reacting via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sowore questioned the legitimacy of the process, asking why the President was not personally involved in filling out his nomination forms.
“Why is someone always filling Tinubu’s @officialABAT election forms for him when he isn’t there? Is it so he can distance himself when they fill in his dubious qualifications or lack thereof?” he queried.
