The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a peaceful, free, fair, and credible local government election in the state through strengthened collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The Chairman of OYSIEC, Afees Adeniyi, made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Command headquarters of the NSCDC in Agodi, Ibadan.
Adeniyi stated that the commission had put all necessary measures in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free electoral process across the state.
He disclosed that the local government election is scheduled to hold on December 29, 2026, across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.
The OYSIEC chairman also commended the NSCDC for its consistent support, cooperation, and professionalism during previous elections conducted by the commission.
According to him, the commission remains confident in the corps’ ability to contribute significantly to the success of the forthcoming polls, stressing that OYSIEC would continue to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure credible elections.
In his response, the Oyo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Augustine Padonu, assured the commission of the corps’ unwavering support in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
Padonu said the NSCDC would continue to provide security for electoral activities, protect sensitive election materials, and maintain peace before, during, and after the elections.
He stressed that effective collaboration among security agencies remains critical to the successful conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.
The commandant further pledged that the corps would deploy its personnel and operational expertise to ensure adequate security throughout the electoral process across the state.
