Ogun Community Appeals to Governor Abiodun Over Deplorable Road

By Abah Margaret

Residents of Imala community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State have once again called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to reconstruct the 7.5-kilometre road linking the community to the state capital.

The agrarian community decried the deteriorating state of the road, describing the hardship endured over the years, particularly during the rainy season. They noted that the poor condition of the road has negatively affected the socio-economic development of the area.

The road, originally constructed in the 1950s by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has remained in a deplorable state despite repeated appeals from the residents.

In a statement signed by Imala Development Coordinator, Mr. Steven Adetomiwa, the community expressed appreciation for Governor Abiodun’s achievements over the past seven years while urging him to extend his infrastructural initiatives to Imala.

The statement read:
"On behalf of Imala Ward 14, we appeal to your Excellency for the construction of the 7.5-kilometre Imala road that has remained in deplorable condition for many years. The road’s current state has hindered our socio-economic growth, and your intervention will bring relief to the community."

Adetomiwa added that past requests for reconstruction have gone unanswered, and he appealed to the governor to assist, emphasizing that timely action would secure the legacy of his administration in the community.

The call mirrors similar complaints from residents along the Oke-Afa/Magboro Road in Obafemi-Owode Local Government, who in January lamented the worsening condition of the road, which causes frequent vehicle breakdowns and hampers movement, especially during flooding in the rainy season.

The community hopes Governor Abiodun will act promptly to alleviate the long-standing infrastructure challenges and support their socio-economic development.
