The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raided multiple drug hotspots across Kano metropolis, arresting 52 suspects and recovering assorted illicit substances within a two-day operation.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the operation—code-named “Operation Sharar Mafaka”—was launched under the leadership of Commander CN DY Lawal to dislodge and occupy notorious drug joints across the state capital.
“The NDLEA Kano State Strategic Command launches Operation Sharar Mafaka, raids multiple drug dens, arrests 52 suspects and seizes assorted illicit substances in two days,” the statement read.
The operation, which began on April 27, 2026, reportedly targeted over 20 identified drug locations across Kano, resulting in a series of coordinated raids.
On the first day, operatives stormed Filin Idi drug dens, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, arresting 15 suspects and recovering illicit substances and drug paraphernalia.
On April 28, further operations were conducted at Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and the Audu Bako Secretariat, leading to the arrest of 16 additional suspects, including three females, as well as the seizure of drugs and locally made weapons.
Later that evening, follow-up raids in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari led to the arrest of 21 more suspects, including one female, with additional exhibits recovered.
In total, 52 suspects—comprising four females—were arrested, while various illicit substances and related items were confiscated.
Speaking on the operation, Commander CN DY Lawal described the strategy as “dislodge and occupy,” stressing that the command would continue to clear identified criminal hideouts.
“We will dislodge criminal joints, arrest suspects, seize exhibits, and occupy premises until normalcy is restored,” he said.
He added that the operation will continue under Operation Sharar Mafaka, urging residents to support the agency’s efforts to rid Kano of drug-related activities.
The NDLEA said the initiative aligns with the national drug control agenda of its Chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), aimed at achieving a drug-free society.
The Command further reiterated its commitment to sustained enforcement, community engagement, and collaboration with citizens to eliminate illicit drug distribution networks across Kano.
