Nasarawa APC Crisis Deepens Over Sule’s Endorsement of Wadada

By Abah Margaret

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing growing internal tension following Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement, announced before the party’s official primary guidelines, has triggered backlash from key stakeholders who insist that due process was not followed.

Prominent among the critics is former governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who said he was neither consulted nor informed before the endorsement or the presentation of Wadada to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I was never consulted. It is too early, and due process must be followed,” Al-Makura said, while stressing that he has no personal grievance against the endorsed candidate.

Despite the criticism, Governor Abdullahi Sule defended his decision, insisting it followed wide consultations and aligns with established political traditions in the state.

His supporters, including members of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Danladi Jatau, have also declared support for Wadada and called for unity within the party.

However, opposition within the APC continues to grow.

Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who is also seeking the party’s governorship ticket, has rejected the endorsement, insisting that the candidate will emerge through a transparent primary election.

The development has further reignited debates over zoning and power rotation in Nasarawa State, with various groups divided on which senatorial district should produce the next governor.

Political observers warn that if not carefully managed, the escalating rift could weaken party cohesion and affect the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
