The Nigerian Army has announced that the 12 Brigade in Lokoja will conduct its first annual Range Classification Exercise from March 30 to April 2.
The Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Lokoja, noting that the exercise will take place at the Chari Maigumeri Shooting Range. It is aimed at enhancing the marksmanship and operational readiness of officers and soldiers.
Abdullahi explained that the exercise will also allow the Brigade to assess the serviceability of its weapons in accordance with standard military requirements.
“The training forms part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its capacity to tackle banditry and other security challenges in the region,” he said.
He urged residents of Shettima, Zango, and neighbouring communities not to panic at the sound of gunshots or troop movements during the exercise.
“Members of the public are advised to stay clear of the range area throughout the duration of the exercise for their safety,” Abdullahi added. “The Army appeals to residents to help disseminate this information widely, including translating it into local languages to ensure adequate awareness.”
