2027: Ondo Senator Dismisses Reports of Losing APC Primary

By Margaret Abah

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Olajide Ipinsagba, has dismissed reports claiming he lost the recently concluded All Progressives Congress senatorial primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ipinsagba, who contested alongside other aspirants for the APC ticket, noted that the party's National Secretariat in Abuja is yet to officially release the results of the primary election, leaving stakeholders awaiting a formal announcement.

Reacting to media reports suggesting that his political career had ended following an alleged defeat in the primary, the senator described the claims as false, misleading, and premature.

In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Prince Adeyinka Ajagunna, Ipinsagba maintained that his political relevance and commitment to the people of Ondo North remain intact.

“Our attention has been drawn to a commentary circulating in the media declaring that the political career of Senator Olajide Ipinsagba is over following the recent APC primary. We issue this response in the interest of facts, decorum, and the democratic values cherished by our party and constituents,” the statement said.

The senator rejected claims that his 2023 electoral victory was solely dependent on the influence of the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, stressing that his mandate came from voters across the six local government areas of Ondo North.

According to the statement, Ipinsagba has, since assuming office in June 2023, facilitated rural road projects, improved healthcare interventions, supported educational initiatives, and maintained regular engagement with constituents across the district.

The statement further highlighted the senator’s efforts in attracting federal projects to the district through his relationships within the National Assembly and the executive arm of government.

It added that he has sustained direct communication with constituents through town hall meetings, constituency office engagements, and project monitoring activities.

“Senator Ipinsagba’s service to Ondo North did not begin in 2023, and it will not end with one primary, the result of which is yet to be made public. He remains committed to development, youth empowerment, and accountable representation. The real challenge is not political rivalry but the collective fight against underdevelopment,” the statement added.

The senator also expressed appreciation to residents of Ondo North for their continued support and assured them of his commitment to serving the district regardless of political developments.
