‘We Made a Mistake Supporting Tinubu’ — Kannywood Actor Sadiq Apologises, Decries Worsening Northern Insecurity

Popular Sadiq Sani Sadiq has publicly apologised to Nigerians, particularly those in Northern Nigeria, over his role in supporting the election of President Bola Tinubu, citing the region’s worsening insecurity, killings, and economic hardship.
In a video message released amid rising violence in the North, the Kannywood veteran admitted that backing Tinubu’s administration was a grave mistake and urged Nigerians not to repeat it in future elections.
“We admit that we made a mistake in choosing this oppressive government of Tinubu. We are suffering because it is now very clear that he is not a lover of the people of the North; he does not care about the North,” Sadiq said.
He highlighted the security crisis affecting multiple states, including Zamfara State, Katsina State, Kebbi State, Sokoto State, Niger State, Kwara State, Benue State, Plateau State, Borno State, Yobe State, and Gombe State, where attacks, kidnappings, and killings have forced farmers to abandon their farmlands.
Sadiq accused the Tinubu-led government of neglecting Northern Nigeria and failing in its primary responsibility to protect lives and property. “This oppressive government of Tinubu does not love us; it does not care about the people of the North. Therefore, we must not make the mistake of re-electing this oppressive government. If you hear this and ignore it, you will bear the consequences,” he warned.
He further argued that the insecurity has crippled agriculture, long regarded as the backbone of the Northern economy. “The North used to pride itself on farming, but now we cannot even go into our farms to cultivate food for ourselves. It has become impossible. We are being killed openly, and nothing is being done,” Sadiq lamented.
In a controversial statement on national unity, the actor alleged that the current administration is deepening divisions in the country. “It is often said that the Igbo people want Nigeria to be divided. But in reality, this Tinubu government itself is pushing Nigeria toward division. Everything important — everything meant for development in the North — is being taken and moved to Lagos State,” he claimed.
Sadiq also criticised uneven budgetary allocations, arguing that Lagos is being favoured at the expense of Northern regions. “Even in the national budget, look at what is allocated to Lagos compared to what is given to the North. Why is it that we cannot even be given basic security so we can live, trade, and farm our food? Yet even that has failed,” he added.
Calling for political vigilance ahead of future elections, the actor urged Nigerians to prepare and safeguard their voter cards to hold the government accountable. “We must be vigilant. We must ensure that we prepare and keep our voter cards ready to vote out this oppressive government,” he concluded.
