Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stating that national security remains a top priority of the administration.
Shettima made this known on Monday in Abuja while speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the presentation of a book titled “My Life and Journalists Hangout” authored by TVC anchor and media personality, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju (BKO).
Responding to concerns over rising insecurity raised by the author, the Vice President assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is taking decisive steps to address the situation.
“The essence of government is to provide security for the lives and property of citizens. The President is fully committed and leaving no stone unturned to ensure that this is achieved,” Shettima said.
He also highlighted the importance of the media in strengthening democracy, describing BKO as a symbol of professionalism, courage, and integrity.
“A strong democracy depends on a vibrant and responsible media. It is not a theatre of noise, but a republic of conscience,” he added.
In his remarks, Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who chaired the event, commended the author for his dedication to balanced and truthful journalism.
The author, who recently turned 60, reflected on his career journey, noting the sacrifices and challenges he has faced in the course of his work. He also urged the government to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity across the country.
“I want to see a Nigeria where citizens can move freely without fear. If external support is needed to address insecurity, the government should not hesitate to seek it,” he said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, among others.
