The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has concluded its emergency response operation following a multi-vehicle accident along the Abuja–Nyanya Expressway.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday at the Kugbo axis, involved a fuel tanker that reportedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles during peak traffic hours.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, NEMA confirmed that no fatalities were recorded, although some individuals sustained injuries and were promptly evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Zakari Abubakar, led the coordinated rescue effort alongside other emergency response agencies.
According to the agency, the swift intervention helped to quickly clear the resulting traffic congestion and restore normal vehicular movement along the busy corridor.
“The prompt and coordinated response ensured the clearance of the traffic gridlock, leading to the restoration of free flow of traffic,” the statement noted.
NEMA further disclosed that the accident scene was secured to prevent any potential fire outbreak, especially due to the involvement of a fuel tanker.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, and other relevant stakeholders, participated in the operation.
As part of safety measures, the affected area was also dampened to reduce the risk of ignition.
The agency confirmed that the situation has been fully brought under control, with normalcy restored to the area.
