The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has distributed 47,280 bags of rice to constituents across the Kano North Senatorial District as part of his Ramadan and Sallah support initiative.
The distribution exercise was flagged off on Tuesday at Azman Rice Company in the Mariri area of Kano, with the senator represented by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Abdallah, alongside other aides.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the gesture was described as part of the senator’s annual intervention to support constituents during the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
According to the statement, the first phase of the distribution saw 47,280 households across the 13 local government areas in the senatorial district receive one bag of rice each.
“The bags of rice were shared across the LGAs, while other categories of beneficiaries will be captured in subsequent phases. In recognition of the importance of grassroots communities, Senator Barau prioritised them as first beneficiaries,” the statement read.
It added that the intervention was aimed at supporting families and fulfilling the religious obligation of feeding the needy during Ramadan.
Beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise expressed appreciation to the lawmaker, describing him as a leader committed to improving the welfare of his constituents.
