The Kano State House of Assembly has scheduled Monday for the screening of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, who has been nominated for the position of Deputy Governor by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

This was disclosed in a Facebook post on Wednesday by Kamaludden Shawai, spokesperson to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore.

According to the statement, the Assembly has formally received a correspondence from the governor seeking the screening and confirmation of the nominee.

“The Kano State House of Assembly has officially received the nomination of His Excellency for the office of Deputy Governor for proper screening and approval,” the statement read.

It further confirmed that the screening exercise will take place on Monday at the Assembly complex.

Earlier, Governor Yusuf had transmitted the name of Alhaji Murtala Garo to the Assembly for consideration, as contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

The nomination, according to the governor’s office, is in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a governor to appoint a deputy governor in the event of a vacancy.

The position became vacant following the voluntary resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
