The Federal Government has unveiled the new digital website of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance in Nigeria.

The launch ceremony was held on Tuesday in Abuja and performed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Akume described the initiative as a major milestone in the commission’s evolution and Nigeria’s pursuit of equity and good governance.

He said the FCC remains central to ensuring fair representation of all segments of the federation in public institutions, stressing that the federal character principle is both a legal and moral foundation for national unity.

“In a country as diverse as Nigeria, the Federal Character Commission represents a cornerstone for trust in governance because it reassures every citizen that the Nigerian state belongs to all and serves all,” he said.

The SGF noted that the new website should go beyond a digital presence to function as a governance tool for transparency and service delivery.

He urged the commission to adopt technology-driven systems that provide real-time access to data, guidelines, certifications, public inquiries, and official records.

Akume also called for open publication of compliance data, institutional reports, and federal character indices to strengthen accountability.

Representing the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Mrs Laila Jibrin described the launch as a significant step in strengthening institutional efficiency and national cohesion.

She said the platform aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes innovation, digital transformation, and inclusive governance.

“The true value of this website lies not merely in its existence but in its effective utilisation. It must remain active, regularly updated and user-friendly,” she said.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the FCC, Hulayat Omidiran, said the website represents a key reform in modernising the commission’s communication and service delivery systems.

She explained that the platform will improve access to information on policies, recruitment processes, compliance requirements, and official announcements.

Omidiran added that it will also strengthen communication between the commission, MDAs, citizens, and development partners.

She described the initiative as part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at enhancing digital inclusion and service delivery.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, represented by Idris Wase, commended the FCC for embracing digital innovation.

He said the initiative would enhance transparency, accountability, and equitable access to opportunities in public service.

“Digital platforms such as this will not only enhance oversight and compliance but also promote equitable access to opportunities, which lies at the heart of the Federal Character principle,” he said.

The Speaker further urged other government agencies to adopt similar technology-driven reforms to strengthen public trust and service delivery.
