Ebonyi: 20-Year-Old Confesses to Killing Mother, Banished by Community

Tragedy struck the Ohatekwe Ukawu community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State after a 20-year-old man, identified as Damian Oforbuike, allegedly murdered his mother, Onyemaechi Oforbuike.

According to sources, the suspect attacked his mother with a machete over the weekend, an incident that has left residents in shock and mourning. Following the attack, Oforbuike reportedly fled into a nearby forest to evade arrest.

Community youths, however, mobilised and launched a search operation, eventually tracking him down in his hideout. He was apprehended and brought back to the community, where he was paraded before residents.

In a video circulating online, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted out of anger after his mother refused to bathe him and declined to provide financial support to set up a barbing business for his brother who had completed his apprenticeship.

“I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother who learned barbing and needed money to start,” he reportedly said.

Following his arrest, the community imposed a banishment on the suspect, warning him not to return.

The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the incident, stating that he led over 200 youths who combed the forest and facilitated the suspect’s arrest.

He added that the suspect has since been handed over to the police for further investigation, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue.
