Makurdi, Benue State – March 17, 2026 – Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has inaugurated a committee tasked with restructuring the mandates and supervision of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the State Civil Service.

Speaking at the ceremony at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia said the initiative is part of his administration’s drive to restore efficiency and improve service delivery across the civil service.

The committee, headed by Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode, is charged with reviewing the mandates of existing MDAs—including ministries, bureaus, commissions, and government-owned companies—and recommending realignments for more effective supervision.

In addition, the panel will examine the roles of political appointees such as Special Advisers and Assistants, and identify overlapping functions to streamline operations within the civil service.

“This is a very serious assignment and I urge you to take it very seriously. This initiative aims to restore standard operational procedures, strengthen institutional values, and enhance personnel quality for optimal performance,” the Governor said. He assured the committee of full government support.

Responding on behalf of members, Barr. Bernard Hom, SAN, expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in the committee and pledged to carry out the assignment diligently.

According to a statement released Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the committee, composed of distinguished indigenes, is expected to submit its report within two months for government consideration.
