The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Citizenship and Leadership, Nasir Ja’oje, has resigned his position to contest an elective office in the 2027 general elections.
His resignation follows a directive by President Tinubu mandating all political appointees with political ambitions to step down on or before March 31, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Ja’oje’s media aide, Abba Anwar, and made available to journalists on Sunday.
According to the statement, the presidential directive applies to ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, senior special assistants, and other appointees.
In his resignation letter, Ja’oje expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, noting that his appointment reflected the administration’s commitment to youth inclusion and leadership development.
He also reaffirmed his willingness to continue contributing to national development in any capacity when called upon.
Ja’oje commended the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that its policies and programmes are designed to deliver positive outcomes for Nigerians.
He further noted that President Tinubu’s emphasis on youth development has boosted morale and encouraged greater participation in governance.
The statement added that Ja’oje’s decision to resign signals his readiness to contest for elective office, with strong backing from his supporters who have expressed confidence in his leadership and political ambition.
