Wike to Principals: Prioritise Education over Protocol

Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a stern warning to school principals in Abuja, urging them not to release students from their classes to welcome him whenever he visits. This directive comes after Wike noticed students lining up outside their classrooms to greet him during a recent visit to commission a 9.8-kilometer road construction project at Government Secondary School Kabusa.

The Minister expressed his disappointment with the practice of bringing students out of their classrooms to line up on roads and welcome dignitaries. He emphasized that this practice is not only unnecessary but also detrimental to the students’ education and welfare. Wike stressed that the welfare and education of students should take precedence over ceremonial protocols.

Wike’s warning was clear: “It is not in our culture, and this will be the last time to see this happen. Nobody should bring students out of their school to line up on the road. We will not accept that any longer. Our children deserve the best.” He also instructed school management and principals to prioritize students’ welfare and education over ceremonial protocols.

During his visit, Wike also took note of the dilapidated state of the school’s infrastructure and ordered its immediate rehabilitation. He instructed his Chief of Staff to collaborate with the FCTA Director of Procurement to finalize the necessary arrangements for the upgrade. Wike emphasized that the government of President Bola Tinubu will not accept subpar educational facilities, and he is committed to ensuring that students receive quality education.
