The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has officially revoked land allocations for several high-profile political figures, including the governors of Bayelsa and Imo States, Senator Douye Diri and Senator Hope Uzodimma, along with Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
In total, the land allocations of 568 individuals in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, have been withdrawn due to their failure to pay the required Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees. This action comes after an extended grace period was granted for compliance.
Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Minister Wike, confirmed that the revocation of the Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) applies to those who did not meet the payment deadline following an initial two-week extension. Prominent figures affected also include former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
Earlier, in October 2024, a total of 3,273 land allottees were ordered to settle their payments or risk losing their R-of-O titles. Of these, 2,511 complied by the initial deadline, leaving 762 individuals who were granted a further two-week extension. As of January 15, 2025, only 194 of those remaining had made the payment, resulting in the final revocation affecting 568 individuals.
A Notice of Withdrawal sighted by our correspondent stated, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) wishes to inform the allottee(s)/ title holder(s) of plot(s) of land in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills after the expiration of the grace period granted by the Honourable Minister that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property have been withdrawn, pursuant to the provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for contravention of the terms which obligated the title/interest holders to settle all bills.”
The notice emphasized that those who completed their payments by January 15, 2025, are not affected by this revocation.
