Governor Fubara Unveils New School as a Beacon of Hope in Ahoada

A palpable sense of excitement filled the air in the Ahoada community as Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara stood before a crowd gathered to celebrate a momentous occasion: the commissioning of the new Government Girls Secondary School. As he stepped to the podium, a smile spread across his face, reflecting the joy and significance of the day.

“Today, I am overwhelmed with joy,” he began, sharing the backstory of the project that had been in limbo before his administration took the reins. Funded before May 29 but abandoned without financial support, the project had sat idle, its potential lost in bureaucracy. But with renewed vigor and a commitment to education as a cornerstone of progress, the governor explained how his team had summoned the original contractors back in August. “We assured them we would fund this project,” he stated confidently, emphasizing their determination not to change contractors—a testament to steadfast governance.

The ceremony was not just about inaugurating a school; it represented a shift in leadership, one that prioritized impactful change over empty gestures. The governor recalled just days earlier, when he had inaugurated an 11.8-kilometer link road, connecting Omuma and Etche. With pride, he reminded everyone of their bold promise: another groundbreaking project was on the horizon. Yet, some detractors, he noted, seemed more interested in casting shadows over progress than engaging in constructive dialogue. He paused, contemplatively addressing those who criticized instead of contributing, pondering why anyone would squander their educational investments on petty discontent.

“This school,” he continued, gesturing toward the new building, “is more than just bricks and mortar; it’s a pillar of support for the future mothers and wives of our nation.” He emphasized the importance of empowering the girl-child, advocating for a strategic approach to education that truly transforms lives.

Though addressing the celebrations with enthusiasm, the governor acknowledged the emotions within the crowd—especially the traditional rulers who had faced consequences for their undying support. He recounted the arrest of Eze Ekpeye, whose public backing of his administration had led to wrongful accusations and detention. Such trials, he assured everyone, would soon pass, as he promised to recognize the traditional leadership that had stood steadfastly with him.

Discussing the local infrastructure, he shared details of his administration’s commitment to not only begin projects but to see them through. “We decided to work on this road because the conditions were dire,” he confessed, recalling the precarious moment when he crossed a rickety bridge during an inspection. His gaze turned earnest as he pledged to ensure the completion of the road and all necessary infrastructure, signaling an unwavering dedication to community welfare.

In a fiery stance against complacency, he announced the cancellation of a contract with a contractor who had failed to meet expectations. “We can’t fund someone who doesn’t stand for what’s right,” he declared, promising the people a renewed commitment to quality and accountability.

With heartfelt gratitude, he thanked the people of Ekpeye and Ahoada East for their loyalty and support, calling for peace as they prepared for the festive season. He concluded with a symbolic acceptance of the chieftaincy title, “Eagle,” representing strength and resilience. “Even in frustration, we soar high,” he proclaimed, assuring everyone that together, they would build a legacy worth celebrating.

With the inauguration celebrated, the crowd erupted into applause, embracing the promise of education, hope, and a future filled with possibilities, truly affirming the mantra: #RiversFirst.
