The Benue State Executive Council has officially expressed its unwavering support for Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, passing a unanimous vote of confidence during a session held on Thursday at the Government House in Makurdi.
The motion was proposed by Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode, Mni, who emphasized the significance of the resolution amidst mounting political and social challenges, particularly concerning escalating security issues within the state. Barr. Ode applauded Governor Alia for his effective management of these crises and his efforts in restoring connections with the central government.
In a poignant moment, the Deputy Governor mourned the recent loss of two courageous soldiers from the Nigerian Army, who were tragically killed by armed herders while on duty in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area, underscoring the serious security risks faced by the state.
Rev. Fredrick Ikyaan, the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, supported the motion, echoing sentiments of his fellow Commissioners and Advisers. He praised the Governor’s strong leadership in navigating the many challenges confronting the state.
Rt. Hon. Paul Biam, Chief of Staff to the Governor, also conveyed the importance of recognizing the Governor’s efforts, stating, “To whom honour is due, honour should be given.”
Responding to the vote of confidence, Governor Alia expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Council members for their faith in his leadership and administration. He assured them that this unanimous backing would motivate him to intensify efforts toward the betterment of Benue State.
The Governor appealed to both his cabinet members and the broader public to maintain their trust and support for his government in pursuit of a secure and prosperous environment for all citizens.
