Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule announced yesterday the dissolution of the State Executive Council and the dismissal of Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma.
The decision was revealed during a special emergency executive meeting held at Government House in Lafia, shortly after Vice President Kashim Shetima concluded a one-day working visit to inaugurate several state projects.
Sources indicate that the dissolution of the executive council may significantly impact the state’s governance and policy implementation.
A senior government official, who wished to remain anonymous, noted that while the specific reasons for the dissolution remain unclear, Governor Sule has a track record of restructuring and strengthening state administration. In 2021, he dissolved the council to create a more effective and efficient governance structure.
The removal of the SSG is viewed as a pivotal development, given the position’s importance in advising the governor and coordinating state policies. “As the situation unfolds, citizens of Nasarawa State are keenly awaiting further clarification on the implications of this decision and the future direction of the state’s administration,” the source added.
In a statement signed by Mohammed Iliyasu-Idde, Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs and Special Services, and obtained by THE SPATULA, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to the outgoing council members for their contributions to the state and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The statement indicated that “all outgoing council members are required to hand over the affairs of their ministries and any government property in their possession to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries, while the SSG will hand over to the Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs and Special Services.”
It is noteworthy that in July 2023, the governor had submitted the names of 17 commissioner nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.
