Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Barrister Isaac Danladi, has announced plans to address gully erosion and other environmental challenges by collaborating with key stakeholders.
The aim is to educate the public about the detrimental effects of dumping waste in waterways, especially during the rainy season. Commissioner Danladi made this statement during a meeting with a delegation from the Environment and Safety Management Institute of Nigeria on Wednesday.
The commissioner stressed the urgent need to tackle the negative impacts of human activities on the ecosystem, acknowledging that the environmental crisis has become increasingly severe. He emphasized the importance of developing measures and advocacy initiatives aimed at local governments to manage the harmful effects of waste dumping in waterways.
Hon Danladi assured the delegation of his commitment to partner with them to ensure Nasarawa State remains clean and free from environmental diseases.
Earlier, the team leader, Martin Iorsamber, congratulated Commissioner Danladi on his recent appointment.
He recommended that the Environment and Safety Management Institute’s expertise should be utilized as consultants to enforce compliance with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP) in Nasarawa State.
Mr. Iorsamber added that the institute is well-equipped to support the Ministry of Environment in effectively achieving its goals.
“We believe this collaboration will significantly strengthen environmental governance, promote public health, and ensure adherence to established environmental laws and policies,” he noted.
