I wished I could rest today but I couldn’t hold it without writing to celebrate an amazing achiever as Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, the esteemed Governor of Nasarawa State, celebrates his 65th birthday. Born on December 26, 1959, in the serene and diverse village of Gudi Station, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Governor Sule’s life story is one of extraordinary accomplishment, dedication, and service.

From his humble beginnings in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious community, Governor Sule has risen to become a transformative leader whose vision and achievements continue to shape Nasarawa State. This commemorative article reflects on his remarkable journey, exemplary governance, and profound impact on his people.Governor Sule’s educational journey began in 1968 at the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Primary School in Gudi Station. He later attended Zang Secondary Commercial School, Bukuru, before enrolling at Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi, in 1977. His academic pursuit took him across the globe to Indiana State University, USA, where he earned both a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Mechanical Technology and Industrial Technology in 1983 and 1984, respectively.

His career trajectory reflects an individual committed to excellence. From Plateau Electricity Corporation in Jos to Jos Steel Rolling Company Ltd., where he achieved an accelerated promotion in 1987, and eventually to the oil and gas sector with Sadiq Petroleum Nigeria Limited, Governor Sule demonstrated unrelenting dedication. His tenure as Managing Director/CEO of African Petroleum Plc marked a turning point, showcasing his strategic acumen in corporate leadership.

After a distinguished career spanning decades in both Nigeria and the United States, Governor Sule returned to Nasarawa State, bringing with him a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to serve his people. His election as Governor in 2019 and subsequent re-election in 2023 are true testaments to his people’s trust in his visionary leadership.

Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration has been marked by a commitment to security, industrialization, infrastructure development, education, and healthcare. His achievements in these areas have not only enhanced the lives of Nasarawa State’s residents but also positioned the state as a beacon of development in Nigeria.

Understanding that security is the foundation of development, Governor Sule prioritized safeguarding lives and property. His administration’s collaboration with security agencies, provision of operational resources, and infrastructural support have significantly reduced communal crises, kidnapping, and armed robbery. It is worthy of note, that open his assumption of office in 2019, the Fulani-herds attacks on Nasarawa communities were drastically curtailed.

Under the Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy (NEDS), Governor Sule has driven significant investments that have catalyzed industrial growth. The establishment of the Nasarawa Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA) has attracted global investors, resulting in projects such as Avatar New Energy Materials Co. Ltd., Azgard Mining, and the Nasarawa Technology Village. These initiatives have unlocked economic opportunities and created jobs, empowering the people and bolstering the state’s economy.

Education has been another cornerstone of Governor Sule’s administration. From the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms to the establishment of faculties of engineering and medicine at Nasarawa State University, his commitment to academic excellence is evident. Over 8,000 teaching and non-teaching staff have been employed, and efforts to enhance primary and secondary education continue unabated.

Governor Sule’s healthcare reforms have improved access to affordable and quality medical services. The Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency, upgraded hospitals, and modern health centers exemplify his dedication to the well-being of his constituents. The transition of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital into a federal teaching hospital underscores his strategic vision for healthcare development.

From urban roads to flyovers and modern bus terminals, Governor Sule’s infrastructural projects have transformed Nasarawa State’s landscape. Notable achievements include the dual carriage Shendam-Akurba Road, township roads in Akwanga, and the state’s first flyover and underpass, streamlining traffic and enhancing urban mobility across the towns of Nasarawa State.

As Governor Sule purposefully drives on his second term, his focus on consolidating previous achievements while pursuing a transformational agenda inspires hope for an even brighter future for Nasarawa State.
