The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied allegations that it approved a herbal tea product claiming to make smoking “healthy.”
A misleading video circulating on social media alleged that NAFDAC registered the product, Lung Detox Tea or Lungitox (Smokers Pride). However, the agency stated that the product is not registered and was rejected in 2023 due to unsubstantiated claims.
In an address to Nigerians, the Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye emphasized that the agency does not approve products that lack scientific basis or pose risks to public health. The Spatula gathered that the Director General stressed that the agency strictly enforces its mandate to protect public health and ensures that all products under its regulatory purview are thoroughly evaluated for safety, quality, and efficacy.
Prof Adeyeye warned against misleading and deceptive practices, particularly those that endanger public health. The NAFDAC boss encouraged the public to disregard the misleading video and avoid unregistered or suspicious products.
NAFDAC remains committed to safeguarding public health and will take decisive action against individuals or entities that violate public health standards.
