Lekki Central Mosque Takes Down Controversial Banner

The Lekki Central Mosque has removed a banner with the inscription “Jesus Christ is Not God” following widespread criticism on social media platform X.

The banner, which was displayed at the entrance of the mosque, sparked outrage among Christians and Muslims alike, with many calling for its removal.

A video shared by X user Adeleke Opeyemi showed Tunde Alabi, a member of the Lekki Muslim Community, confirming the removal of the banner.

“I sent a message to the mosque community and was told that it had been removed, so I came to confirm myself,” Alabi said. “I am sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused.”

The controversy began when Nigerian actress Wumi Tuase expressed her dismay at the banner on X, saying she found it “weird” that the mosque would display such a message.

Her post sparked a heated debate on religious tolerance and the need for respect between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

The removal of the banner has been welcomed by many as a step towards promoting interfaith harmony and understanding.
