The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 65-year-old man, Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who was allegedly posing as the “Obi of Lagos.” He, along with three accomplices, was arrested while planning an unauthorized unveiling ceremony in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin.
According to police reports, intelligence revealed that the group intended to unveil a prototype for a supposed ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. In response, law enforcement swiftly secured the venue to prevent a disturbance and protect unsuspecting members of the public from being misled.
The other suspects, identified as Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41), were taken into custody alongside Azubike and are currently held at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
Police spokesperson, DSP Babasuyi Oluseyi, noted that substantial manpower, including conventional officers, the Eko Strike Force, and various tactical teams, was deployed to ensure the event did not take place. He stated that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will face charges once completed.
Additionally, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, cautioned the public against being deceived by impostors who exploit cultural and traditional institutions for personal gain. He emphasized that such actions are illegal, threaten public peace, and will be addressed with strict enforcement of the law.
